Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria aka Shiites staged a peaceful protest on Tuesday in Abuja to demand the unconditional release of their leader Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
The Islamic group leader and his wife have been in detention since December 2015 after their members had a clash with men of the Nigerian Army.
They locked down human and vehicular traffic in the ever busy Central District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to mark the 68th birthday anniversary and 224 days of Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky’ s detention.
The group in their usual fashion of filling according to age grade and sex trooped out in hundreds chanting war-like songs as they marched through major roads demanding justice for their detained leaders.
